Sharing my Life Journey on Podcast with Sheila

My Life Journey

Podcast with Sheila is a weekly recording that empowers, inspires and motivates others through positive real-life experiences. After my previous interview on Gems with Amaris Kemp, I recently stopped by another podcast for another chance to share my life journey with you. It was truly an honor and a privilege. I started by providing a brief intro about myself. I don’t see myself as a victim but an overcomer. If I could do it then you can do it too.

I started by looking back at my memory of physical abuse from as early as 5yrs old. The arguing and discourse between my biological parents. One major incident I could recall was when we were in the car and music was playing. When It got darker the fighting got more intense and I remember blood just going from her face and my sister crying just trying to pull him off.  I was numb and completely frozen in astonishment…

I remember getting in the car with my dad and being taken to my paternal aunts house. I remember being dropped off. I remember him saying something to my new adopted mother before he left! and I was 5. I remember My mind went blank, a cry that could not come out, a yell that was just shut down. I remember just laying there and not knowing what tomorrow will bring. I knew that there was a higher power and no matter what happened, this higher power would always be with me. As days and months went by, no one came back to get me.

A Child's Foundation

The relationship that my biological father had with my aunt who adopted me was a good one so sometimes he will come by and talk about his new family and expecting other children. I felt forgotten even though I was his child. I just wanted to be reunited with my real parents but the love was never there. No one fought for me, not my father, not my mother. So I had to bring all this baggage into my adult life wondering who would ever love me and fight for me.

The foundation is so crucial to your children: What they see, feel and experience. I made a vow when I had my first child that none of my children will ever feel the lack of love that I personaly experienced. I want them to feel that motherly affection and energy that is more valuable than any material thing on earth.

“How would you feel if your daughter should come home telling you ‘My husband laid his hands on me?'”

~ Sheila

During the interview we had an in-depth conversation about domestic violence and the abusive relationships that I experienced during my life journey from an early age. The host found it heartbreaking. The host spoke about having to cut her friends off after she got married. She did not have anyone to go to to talk about her problems, except God. Her advice to anyone going through a situation is to go on your knees and speak with God about it. The host also asked about how we can find inner piece and resilience through the toughest times.

My response was self love. Through my life journey I had to learn to invest in me and love me for who I am. Once I released my story, before it was even published, the agony was already lifted.

THE TIME OF TRUTH

Towards the end, the host asked questions to allow the listeners to get to know me. My answers were:

What is your favorite song? Love me like you never have

What is your favorite time of the day? My favorite time of day is usually at night.

What would your favorite movie be? The Color Purple right now.

What would your favorite phrase be? “Accept & Embrace it All” would be my favorite phrase.

I Wish…The world would get better.

Nothing in this world can…Stop me from achieving anything that I want to achieve in this life.

I pray…That God will continue to give me the strength and the love and the joy to finish my purpose driven life.

I would love to…Travel and go to visit Africa with my daughter to the motherlands.

I believe…All things are possible through Christ who strengthens me.
