Words of Healing From Painful Memories

Gems by Amaris Kemp is a podcast about educating, inspiring and motivating others with powerful stories that make an impact in people’s lives. It features real and authentic conversations and words of healing and inspiration. I enjoyed having the opportunity to collaborate on an episode. I started by giving a brief overview of my background and my experience of being adopted. Sometimes people are abandoned because their parents are not able to provide for them in the best way possible. But in my case, it was clear to me from an early age that my biological parents simply did not want me but accepted my siblings. Till today I still do not have a relationship with my biological mother who still lives near me even though I have tried for years to bond with her.

That foundation that was broken as a child altered a lot of my decisions as an adult. Till today there are still some questions that may never be answered but that does not define me. My past does not define who I am.

Words of Healing

We spoke about how I came up with the name of the book and the meaning behind “The Epitome”. I had to revisit my past journey with the help of a therapist and it took a lot of courage. I often broke down in tears.  I kept trying to uncover my essence from the very beginning. The mental trauma, being silent, the abuse and the learning disability that lasted though my years of study. The title is about the essence of resilience and the essence of me.

“You found your voice, you took back the power, You took the traumas that were meant to break you and you turned them into a breakthrough.”

I spoke about where I am now and how this book has helped me. I just turned 48 and my oldest child, Kortnie is 32. I was 15 going on 16 when I had her. This book reflects a whole new chapter in my life. Each morning I am so blessed to be the able to be the best Kimmy that i can be. To continue the healing and my journey towards a purpose filled life.

I hope you find inspiration in these words of healing, and please don’t forget to share.
