Healing From Childhood Trauma & Pain

I was recently interviewed on A Woman’s soul Restored with Latonia Hendry. On this spiritual podcast, we shared stories of healing from childhood trauma and pain. We talk about how past traumas don’t define or dictate one’s future. Through these conversations, You can also learn to reclaim your power, to believe in yourself, and rise up with confidence and spirit. I started by giving a brief introduction of myself, my kids and my background. Then we talked about surviving trauma and finding inner peace.

Healing From Childhood Trauma & Finding Inner Peace

Writing my memoir has been something that has been in my spirit for up to 20yrs. So many people told me that I should share my story and prophesied that there would be a book.

I felt obligated to share my story with the world. When my parents left me in kinship care at the tender age of 6, there was a lot of trauma and silent pain that I had to go through. From birth, I always knew that there was a disconnect from my birth mother. I had no voice or control over this new reality. So when writing this book I had to go back to my foundation and reflect on my life.

The host recalled the experience of writing her own story as well. It felt like a spiritual release. Like a weight was being lifted off her spirit.

We also talked about my Christian background with the church. I remember praying a simple prayer that I did not want to be different and I knew I was different. I had a harder time fitting in and I felt like I had no voice. I didn’t want to be pitied, I just always wanted to have a voice.

The Epitome of Kimmy

The book talks about my different marriages, the choices that I made and how I had my first daughter just before I turned 16. How I searched for love and acceptance in all the wrong places. I used to push away the people who God sent, including my godmother but I eventually learned to embrace these blessings that God had planned for me.

The host could relate to the book because she had her own daughter at 16 as well. But she lost her mother to domestic violence. Her father killed her mother. She believed that my story of healing from childhood trauma was a strong testimony. It shows that no matter what you have been through, God will bring you back.

She was also curious about how my family responded to the book. I had to reveal the threats I received from family members who did not want me to release this book. But my adopted dad once told me that “Kimmy, if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.” Regardless of if I received support or not, I could not hide the truth. Because this was my story. So for me, writing this book was a huge release. Both mentally and spiritually.

“When God restores you, you are truly and fully Restored.”~ Latonya Hendry

After the book was released, people messaged me on Facebook saying that they could relate to my journey. People reached out to me who weren’t even from my hometown. The book also inspired other people to want to share their journey of overcoming all odds and healing from childhood trauma. I hope it inspires you as well.
