Overcoming PTSD with Anxiety

Mental Talk

The Mental Talk Podcast by Advice Seekers Team is a show where we talk about all things mental. It is a safe haven where people can be open and free to share their stories and listeners can learn more about mental health in a fun way. My last interview was on A God Shift with Shayna Rattler but in this interview, the focus was on mental health and how I was able to overcome the PTSD with anxiety that I experienced.

PTSD with Anxiety

It was truly a pleasure to be a guest on the show.  After a brief introduction, one of the hosts asked about how my past experiences impacted who I am today.

I spoke about my rough foundation of being rejected, abandoned and separated from my family. Mentally I really shut down and became very withdrawn. Until my adulthood, I did not feel like my voice mattered. I had to first accept the things I went through and then find the root of everything. Mental health was taboo in my family but I had to make the choice to seek mental health because the other coping methods did not work. I never got into the drugs or alcohol abuse but I really experienced the anxiety, the depression and the OCD.

I remembered being in the hospital for 2 weeks on dialysis with a kidney infection because I was not taking care of my body. You cannot take care of your body by taking alchohol, not eating healthy, not drinking water, not getting the proper rest but these were the kind of things I was doing. I was just running my body down completely.

So I could see the things that I had to accept and I had to make a choice about how I want my life to be and what tools do I have to use to get a better quality of life. I had to invest in myself to make that choice and receive that help and one of the resources that is on top of my survival kit is my therapist! I had a couple of sessions during the period of writing my memoir and I had to relive my complete journey and my truth and expose it all.

“Don’t live in silence, and fear, or intimidation or embarrassment. Your release will come from your truth and being vocal and choosing to accept better. Choosing to fight for you”

~ K.I.M

The host recognized that I have come a long way and my story covers a lot of themes from OCD to finding acceptance and seeking mental health. A lot of people believe that to go to a therapist they have to be at rock bottom and be completely devastated but the truth is that we don’t have to be extremely sabotaged to go to therapy.

My advice to people is to be vocal, you have a voice. My release came after I stopped being silent. Once you get silent or ashamed and you don’t want to share or tell, that is when it gets even more detrimental. I am a living witness that this has to be done. I have never been this courageous in my life since I started speaking my truth and releasing my memoir.
