The Motivational Voice is a podcast that provides you with inspiration and motivation for your personal and professional life. The goal is to empower you by using concrete, real-life examples to help you overcome whatever life throws at you. It was an honor and a privilege to be invited to this interview to spread my message and story again. In this episode, we discuss the importance of walking your own path and how you can use self-determination to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
Inspiration and Motivation
I just love motivating people, that is my passion, just motivating anyone who needs inspiration to not give up and keep living this journey of life. I am a mother of 5 and work in the public sector as a case manager. I love my occupation and have always been able to serve and give. It’s been enlightening and my weeks are always changing. I believe you never pass the learning stage and as long as we are living here on earth we always have the opportunity to learn something new.
The host asked what lead me to want to motivate people and inspire. Was there anything that lead me to want to do this?
Well I had to find it within. I am now passionate to encourage people to know that you have a choice and you can choose yourself to want the best and that builds your self-determination. Through the years of my life of being a child that was misdiagnosed, I had to apply some self-determination to make a choice and decide “Do I want to make my choice and my own path in this life?” Even if there are some learning challenges that I had to take, I had to apply myself differently. I had to accept the challenge but not be defined by the challenge.
In my journey I remember choosing then also not choosing because I felt I did not have the ability to choose. Then I found out that If I have the ability to believe, and have faith then I also have the ability to choose.
“Choosing is so empowering. Once you understand and define that that choice starts within, to choose, it brings inside empowerment that just keeps rising and rising, when you choose.” ~ K.I.M
Self-Determination
The host asked what I mean when I talk about self-determination.
That it starts within. You have to understand yourself, invest in yourself and choose within yourself to be determined to have the life you want, the things you want and to do the things you want even if statistics say otherwise.
The host asked me to give situations when I used self-determination to overcome statistics.
Up until 5 years old, both of my biological parents gave me away and abandoned me. They went on with their life, they had other children, they divorced and that was that. I was 5 years old and had to adapt, had to choose. I remember going to the doctor, and my adopted-mom telling me they said that when I had children I would be one of the statistics that would give away or be abusive to one of my children. I came from a very religious family in which prayer was the solution to everything. I was misdiagnosed with mild retardation instead of PTSD and statistics also said I would not read and write effectively. I had to build on this resilience that made me choose that regardless of what papers were saying and learn my way. I just did not let those challenges prevent me from getting the degree that I wanted and the job that I wanted.
“Isn’t it strange that sometimes the biggest obstacle we face is ourselves.?” ~ Oumar Dieng
