Finding Balance As A Solo Mom

SoloMoms! Talk

I was recently invited to SoloMoms! Talk, a podcast where solo (divorced, single, married, widowed) moms share their stories and gain a whole new perspective on their own lives. It is a platform to bring awareness to the unique experiences of moms raising their kids alone. In this episode, we talk about the challenges of being a solo mom today, as well as my inspiration behind the memoir. I also provide advice for single parents, and more.

Finding Balance As A Solo Mom

After having me introduce myself, the host asked How did you become a solo mom?

I have 4 adult children and 1 minor, so 5 altogether and 6 grandchildren. I became a solo mom from my last marriage about 4 years ago and even prior to that I had been a solo mom a couple of times within my journey of life. It was definitely a transition but i’ll rather be a healthy solo mom who is happy, well and living a peaceful life. So my other children can see that there is a quality of life in being a single mom. It all has to do with the choices that you make.

What has been your biggest struggle with raising your children alone?

Balancing, adjusting, finding that balance, and just making sure that I have that balance. I connect spiritualy, with God, and ask Him for strength, and help,  and wisdom in the season and moment I am in. Not to be as anxious or impulsive. Just live in the moment and find that strength in God to be able to do this.

Let Your Past Inspire You

What inspired you to write a book?

Just bits and pieces of my life. I’ve been just blessed for almost 49 years here on Earth. I would always share bits and pieces of my story when appropriate and people would tell me my life was like a book. When COVID hit, it felt like it was now or never for me to release my whole journey to inspire other people.

So I started from the beginning at 5 years old being dropped off and never being reunited with my mother and father and the traumatic experiences I had seen. I was really blessed to have older adopted parents who taught me morals and values and built a shelter of stability. But still there were things that happened inside of their home that they didn’t intend to happen. I was molested by one of their family members, at 12! So I just put all of that in my memoir to let people know that things need to be accepted and embraced. First you need to accept your past, and embrace your future but let your truth be told.

The host asked how my past has impacted my life today, and my decision-making in my adult life.

I can confidently choose without a shadow of a doubt, what’s best for my life, what I would accept, and what I won’t accept. I learned to re-invest in myself. I learned to ask God for patience. I won’t jump ahead, I would just be patient and embrace where I am now.

Accepting The Past & Embracing Your Future with Gratitude

The host asked what am I grateful for today?

“I am grateful for life, I am grateful for learned experiences, I am grateful for my past because it truly helped bring the essence of who I am today..” ~ K.I.M

The host asked, what piece of advice would you give to a solo mom today?

Invest in yourself! You are so deserving… It would be the best gift that you can give yourself! Investing in yourself!!

Accept & Embrace It All! Accept whatever you want, for yourself, as long as it’s for the best quality of life that you want, and embrace it!
